A Weekend in the Classic City

Written by Christina Montford

So you want to spend a weekend in Athens? Well, let’s make it a great one. Let’s start by picking a hotel. Hotel Indigo is one of the finer hotels in Athens. It sits in the center of downtown which makes it the perfect hotel for people that might want to experience what Athens nightlife has to offer.

Once you’ve picked your hotel, you are going to need to find somewhere to eat. Transmetropolitan is an Italian restaurant downtown that has a variety of foods to suit every patron’s pallet. They have delicious giant pizza slices and soups that will make you want to never leave your table.

After you’ve gotten your fill of Italian cuisine, your best bet would be to head on down to Sanford Stadium to watch the Bulldogs take on the Yellow Jackets in the University of Georgia vs. Georgia Tech game. A Georgia game is a guaranteed good time. Every street from downtown to the stadium will be packed with excited Georgia fans wanting to share in the Bulldog’s victory with you.

Once the game is over, you and your family might want to find a nice place to have dinner before you set out for a night on the town. East West Bistro is an upscale restaurant just minutes from Hotel Indigo. Not only is East West Bistro convenient, it’s delicious.

Once you have finished eating, you’re going to be looking for a fun way to spend the rest of your night. The Georgia Theatre has great shows every weekend to start your night off right. The Georgia Theatre is conveniently placed downtown. Once the show is over, you can visit any of the dozens of bars that pepper downtown Athens.

Even If you don’t follow this itinerary to the t, you can rest assured that Athens will not let you down. It’s still the classic city and any weekend in Athens is a good weekend.
